Another project at the airport
Division Traffic Infrastructure is currently preparing another project at Václav Havel Airport Prague called "TWY R Taxiway and Apron South, Václav Havel Airport Prague, Ruzyně". After previous successful projects of repair of 12/30 runway and last year's reconstruction of Beta taxiway, we also succeeded in a tender procedure for construction of a new TWY R taxiway.
The total value of the project is almost 835 MCZK and HOCHTIEF will execute it together with a joint venture partner Eurovia. The construction was divided into three stages that are linked to the planned yearly closures of the main runway. Our company will perform most of the works during the first stage, which started on 17 June 2020. The entire project shall be completed in the first half of 2022.
The project consists of complete construction of a new concrete TWY R taxiway and apron south area, including ground plane modification, new drainage and execution of the airport lighting system. The entire construction is located within the most guarded airport zone (SRA), where all the persons and machinery must undergo thorough security inspections every day (sometimes several times). The biggest challenge, as with all the projects for Prague Airport, is thus a tight time schedule and complicated logistics. As to the crucial works, the team therefore took into account the 24/7 mode, which will require their extraordinary engagement.
The successful project completion is one of the many conditions that must be met so that the Prague Airport could execute its long-planned aim to build a new parallel runway.
