Leoš Janáček Airport has a new control tower meeting all modern requirements
On Thursday 9 June 2016, operation of a new service centre and air traffic control tower (TWR Ostrava) at the Leoš Janáček Airport was officially started in an inauguration.
The project that was performed for the investor ŘLP ČR s.p. by HOCHTIEF CZ a. s. crowns a programme of reconstructions of regional airports. In the past years, the same investor built and successfully put to operation new service centres and control towers at the airports in Brno and Karlovy Vary.
The need of a new control tower was induced by growing importance of the airport in Ostrava for the traffic infrastructure in the Moravian and Silesian region, at which there were almost 22,000 takeoffs and landings only in 2015.
The new air traffic control centre is situated at a height of 20 m, in the topmost, i.e. sixth, floor of the control tower. A special glazing of the control tower, sound insulation and elimination of sun radiation together with an excellent view of the air traffic ensure for the dispatchers the much needed comfort for a perfect performance of their highly demanding jobs.
