Reconstruction of the State Opera officially commenced
On Monday 13 March 2017, Director of the National Theatre prof. MgA. Jan Burian and Chairman of the Executive Board of HOCHTIEF CZ a. s. Ing. Tomáš Bílek in attendance of the Minister of Culture Daniel Herman symbolically commenced a general reconstruction of the State Opera.
The construction works on the currently most significant state contract worth CZK 858 million can start. The reconstruction will cover both historic and service parts of the building. The historic building went through more comprehensive repairs for the last time when the service building was built in 1970s. Since then, only minor investment projects were carried out there to address the outdatedness and obsolescence of the individual parts. After nearly 44 years, extensive construction and reconstruction works are to be performed on both of the buildings.
Financing of the general reconstruction of the State Opera is from the Conservation of the National Cultural Treasure programme. A team from HOCHTIEF CZ managed by Jan Křístek will have 27 months to complete the project.
