České Budějovice – On May 30th, 2005 a conference under the name “City and water” took place in České Budějovice. Patronage over the even on behalf of the Southern Bohemia region was taken by sheriff RNDr. Jan Zahradník, deputy of city mayor Mgr. Juraj Thoma on behalf of the Magistrate of České Budějovice and president of Associated Builders’ Institute Ing. Václav Matyáš. Main topics of the conference dealt with navigability of rivers and their use for transport and recreation and also the influence of water and water management works on municipal organism.
Morning part of the conference was devoted to points at issue regarding water transport financing from EU sources and navigability of rivers – their use for transport, recreation and tourism. This was continued by lectures on water transport and navigability of rivers in the Czech Republic.
An important topic of regional importance was presented by the lectures devoted to the navigability of Vltava and acquaintance of the public with an independent set of problems that are presented by water management works in municipal surroundings in connection to municipal infrastructure and also lectures regarding anti-flood measures and their impact on municipal functioning and supplementation of municipal interior.
The aim of this seminar was to acquaint the professional public (professionals from design organizations and state administration) with given points at issue and gain active cooperation with professional organizations, state departments and private sector in solving of these problems of cohabitation and usage of waterways in municipal and suburban agglomerations.
